UWSI does not take a public position in national, state or local debates about abortion, global warming, gun control, border control and immigration, or other controversial matters. Although we recognize the importance of such debates, we also recognize that they involve religious, moral, ethical, social and legal issues that evoke strong emotions among the diverse populations we serve. Since the 14-county region supported by UWSI encompasses many groups of reasonable, committed and caring people that have differing views in any particular controversy, we can accomplish our mission only by remaining neutral.
UWSI will continue its policy of being a strong public advocate in regard to non-controversial matters about which there is a clear consensus.
Whenever UWSI can add its voice and resources to efforts that align with its Community Impact Agenda, then it will do so.
